Welcome Back
A warm welcome back to school for Term 4 especially to the new families that are joining us for the first time. We are looking forward to a great term of learning and finishing 2025 in a strong way.
We encourage parents to contact our teachers and school if there are changes to family matters that might impact on their child at school. We can help to support your child if we are aware of these changes. If your phone, email and / or address details have changed over the break, please contact our office to update them.
Planning for 2026 Classes
Later this term our school will begin the process to develop classes for 2026. Teachers and Administration are collaboratively involved in this process and will carefully consider each child’s academic, social and emotional needs when making a class placement for them. This process is extensive, and a lot of time, thought and care is taken to ensure that children are placed in the most appropriate class that best suits their needs.
From time to time, parents contact their current child’s teacher to request teachers and friends for their children to be placed with in their future class placement. However, at Morningside State School we believe that as teachers spend the entire school day with your child and have been in communication with parents during the year, they are well placed to understand the social, emotional and learning needs for each child in their class and to make the judgment about the best class placement for 2026. Class teachers will therefore make student class placements for 2026.
If, however, parents feel there is some information regarding your child’s learning, social or emotional needs that your child’s teacher or Administration have not already been made aware of during this year, and this information may impact on their class placement for 2026, please contact the office and complete an “ Additional Information To Be Considered For 2026 Class Placement” form by Thursday 6 November (week 5).
Please note, once classes have been confirmed for “Step Up Day for 2026”, changes to move children to different classes does not occur (unless there is a decrease or increase in teacher numbers at the school and a reallocation of classes is required.)
2026 School Camps
School camps are a fantastic part of our school program at Morningside State School. By attending camps students can develop skills in leadership, teamwork, communication, independence and resilience.
To help parents with planning in 2026, please see below information about our camps. The 2026 costs will be confirmed next year. We are always very happy to support all our Morningside families. Please contact our office if we can help you to set up a payment plan.
Year Level | Camp | 2025 Cost |
4 | Runaway Bay 22 – 24 July (New Venue) | Approx. $250 |
5 | Currimundi 5 – 7 August | Approx. $261 |
6 | Cairns 4 – 7 August | Approx. $1 400 |
Facilities work during the holidays
Over the holidays a number of projects around our school were completed to help improve and refresh our site:
- High water pressure cleaning around the school.
- Pool grandstand repairs.
- Building stump repairs (E, F and J Block).
- Aeration, top dressing and levelling of school oval.
Library refurbishment update
At the last P&C meeting we shared the concept plan that has been developed by the architects following sessions with staff and students. Feedback will be provided to the architect and then we will receive some costings. The concept plan is provided below.
Supervision before and after school
Parents and students are reminded that teachers are not rostered on duty before and after school for formal supervision of students. This means that children who arrive at school before 8.15am should be enrolled in OSHC unless they are enrolled in a supervised extra-curricular activity such as band.
Our first bell sounds at 8.35am and formal learning commences at 8.45am.
Children in Year 1 – Year 6 who arrive after 8.15am should sit quietly under the roof in the Green Space until the first bell sounds at 8.35am.
Prep children need to be supervised by an adult (PKM - at the front of the school, PSB and PBM in the covered Prep eating area) before school every day and escorted to class by the adult at the first bell.
After school, children should proceed directly home unless they are enrolled in OSHC or a supervised extra-curricular activity. Prep children should be collected from their classroom by an adult.
Please note, the school playgrounds are “Out of Bounds” before and after school as they are under the license of OSHC and should therefore only be used by children enrolled in OSHC.
School uniform
It has been great to see children embracing our new uniform. Full transition to the new uniform will be by the end of 2027.
Parents and children are reminded that children can currently wear the following uniform items as part of our current uniform policy that has been endorsed by the P&C.
- Blue & gold checked dress.
- Royal blue skorts
- Royal blue or grey shorts
- Royal blue polo shirt
- Blue & gold checked blouse
- Royal blue button up shirt with gold piping
- Sport house colour polo shirt
- Enclosed black shoes, white socks
- Gym shoes for PE and sport
- Royal blue school approved sun hat (Prep: Yellow legionnaire’s cap)
- Royal blue or black tights
- Royal blue tracksuit pants
- Royal blue fleecy jumper/jacket or school microfibre jacket
- Long grey pants
- Hair accessories in school colours (i.e. gold, royal blue or blue/white checked)
School Zone Parking
Parking in accordance with all road rules and signage is important to keep our children and other road users safe. Unfortunately, Brisbane City Council has received an increase in the number of reports of illegal parking around our school.
As a result, our school has been added to Council’s Safer Schools Program this term. What does this mean? Brisbane City Council’s Parking Compliance Officers will be actively patrolling the streets surrounding our school over the coming term to encourage safer parking behaviours.
These patrols will be conducted on foot and in highly visible Community Safety and Regulation vehicles that can identify alleged offences using Automatic Number Plate Recognition and GPS software.
What are the common parking signs around schools? A guide to common parking signs around school zones can be found on Council’s website by searching the term ‘School Parking’.
Have a great fortnight.

Environment Club News

October is ‘Buy Nothing New’ Month
Believe it or not, one of the biggest things you can do to help the environment is to consume less. ‘Buy nothing new’ month is a global movement to highlight the impact of over consumption on our environment. Our planet has an amazing ability to regenerate resources, but not at the rate we are currently consuming them. Australians are some of the biggest consumers - if everyone on earth lived like the average Australian, we would use up a year’s worth of our planet’s resources before the end of March!
So, Buy Nothing New month is a challenge to take the whole month off shopping (apart from food, medicines and other essentials). It is about thinking through what we’re buying and asking questions like, ‘Do I really need it?’, ‘Can I buy it second-hand instead?’ or ‘Can I borrow it from a friend or neighbour?’. Why not take on the challenge to buy nothing new this month. You can find more information here: https://www.buynothingnew.com.au/
